description

Dr. Yaman Boluk is a Professor and Nanofibre Chair in Forest Products Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta. He joined academia from petrochemicals industry in 2010 with a clear objective to develop high volume applications based on cellulose nano particles. His research interest includes interfaces and rheology of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and cellulose nanofibers (CNF) incorporated soft matter. His research group focuses on manufacturing processes and grafting of CNC and CNF and their applications in the domain of biomedicals, smart films for catheters and food packaging, cement and concrete additives, environmental engineering solutions and electrospinning. His environmental engineering solutions address heavy metal and trace organic removal in soil and water treatments. The goal of this research program is to capture the opportunities by preparing and utilizing cellulosic nanofibres which offer unique supramolecular structures combined with high crystallinity, hydrophilicity, chirality, chemical modification potential and structure-forming capacity.
